Coinfund is betting big on Web3
While the crypto economy is still facing the downturn, capital keeps pouring in.
Coinfund, a crypto-focused investment firm, announced the launch of a $300 million venture capital fund ("Ventures I" or the "Fund") for Web3 founders looking to fund their crypto projects.
CoinFund listed some of the limited partners supporting the new fund, including the Teachers Retirement System (TRS) of Texas and the private market investment firms Adams Street Partners and StepStone Group.
CoinFund Ventures I investments will back 30 to 40 companies. The majority will go to companies that CoinFund has never previously supported, but a small subset of portfolio companies may also receive follow-on funding.
Founded in 2015, CoinFund had previously focused on bitcoin and seed stage investments in DeFi projects.
NFL and Dapper Labs launch digital video collectible NFT platform
The National Football League (NFL) and Dapper Labs have officially launched NFL All Day, an NFT video digital collectible platform.
Fans can buy and sell NFTs based on officially licensed footage features NFL players, teams, and moments on the platform.
It is almost like a football version of NBA Top Shot, a series of collectible trading cards issued as NFTs, representing "moments" from basketball history. Again, with Dapper Labs.
NFL and Dapper Labs created an ad starring Super Bowl 2020 champion Mahomes, who previously sold his own Ethereum NFT artwork for millions of dollars.
This week marks the first public drop of the 'headliner' pack featuring a legendary moment from Tom Brady's career, along with moments from Jalen Ramsey, Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson and Jonathan Taylor.
While NFL All Day is very similar to NBA Top Shot in terms of premise and design, Dapper plans to take a different approach in terms of content.
Sports leagues are really into NFTs these days. Other favourite projects include:
Major League Baseball (MLB) X Candy Digital
The National Hockey League (NHL) X Sweet
The German Bundesliga soccer league X OneFootball
With "tens of millions of dollars" in sales to date, NFL All Day attracted nearly 200,000 paying customers during the closed beta period.
