Under Armour partnering with Stephen Curry on an NFT drop
Remember the historic moment when, in a game against the New York Knicks last week, basketball player Stephen Curry set the NBA record for career three-pointers by netting his 2,974th shot from beyond the arc for the Golden State Warriors? The digital replicas of the sneakers Curry wore that day, are going to be the first wearable, cross-platform metaverse shoe.
Curry is teaming up with sports apparel brand Under Armour on an NFT drop to commemorate his new record as the NBA's all-time leading three-point shooter. Decentraland, the decentralized 3D virtual reality platform, has announced its partnership with Under Armour and the NBA champion in a tweet posted on Saturday. The specific details of these developments are not out yet, but the event is supposed to happen on 12.21.21 at 8 PM Eastern standard time.
According to Under Armour, the Genesis Curry Flow NFT line is the first wearable, cross-platform sneaker NFT. The virtual kicks can be worn across three metaverses – Decentraland, The Sandbox, and Gala Games (in various pixel styles).
All of the major shoe brands, including Nike and Adidas, and Reebok, have recently made significant advances into the NFT and metaverse spaces, with remarkable success. https://www.thetokendispatch.com/adidas-made-a-major-splash-in-the-metaverse-by-selling-nfts-worth-over-22-million/
Adidas Originals have embraced non-fungible tokens NFTs and the metaverse by releasing its first set of NFTs in collaboration with established names such as Bored Ape Yacht Club, and GMoney. Nike announced its acquisition of RTFKT, a virtual sneaker company.
Curry had launched another collection of 2,974 NFTs – portraits of himself, not digital shoes – commemorating his achievement on Dec 17. Curry and his wife Ayesha founded the "Eat. Learn. Play" foundation, which will get 100 percent of the earnings from the NFT launch.
